Ingredients
  • 1 recipe family chocolate cake mixture (see recipe)
  • 150g (5oz) butter
  • 350g (12oz) icing sugar
  • 15ml (1 tbsp) milk
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) hot water
  • 15ml (1 tbsp) cocoa powder
  • Sweets for filling
Recipe
  1. Bake the Family Chocolate Cake mixture in two 20cm (8") heart-shaped sandwich tins, for 40- 45 minutes.
  2. Leave to cool on a wire rack.
  3. Cream the butter and the icing sugar together with the milk Mix the hot water and cocoa powder into a paste.
  4. Add this to the butter mixture and cream well.
  5. Fit two piping bags with nozzles; one a ribbon nozzle, and the other a plain writing nozzle.
  6. Fill the bags with the butter cream.
  7. Hold the ribbon nozzle sideways and pipe three evenly-spaced lines, one above the other, on one of the cakes.
  8. The three lines should all be the same length.
  9. Pipe a vertical line, using the writing tube, along the edge of the basket weaving.
  10. Continue this process until the cake is covered.
  11. Cover the outermost edge and the sides of the remaining cake in the same way.
  12. This will now be the base, and the completely covered cake the lid.
  13. Arrange the lid at an angle on top of the lower cake and fill the inside with sweets.
